Karl Metzger, MD

Dr. Metzger brings an impressive and diverse background in business operations, engineering, military service, and medicine to our leadership team as well as our expanding GME program.

 Dr. Metzger has been board-certified in family medicine since 2013 and has practiced a full scope of care, including inpatient ICU, outpatient adult and pediatric medicine, women’s health and palliative care. He has a passion for teaching our next generation of physicians how to deliver exceptional, evidence-based and patient-centered care while engaging in a philosophy of continuous improvement.

Before attending medical school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and earned a meritorious mast for his work on teambuilding and computer programming. He also had a successful 15-year career in product development engineering, earning two U.S. patents related to N95 respirators. After those experiences, he discovered he wanted to help people live healthier lives and thought of no better way than to pursue medicine.

Dr. Metzger graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2010 and was chosen as an American Board of Family Medicine Pisacano Scholar. He pursued his residency at the University of South Florida School of Medicine and graduated in 2013 with the BSM Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education. Outside of work, he is busy raising his growing family with his wife, Jessica, and enjoys martial arts, trail running, and mountain biking.
