Tilt Testing

Tilt Table Testing is one of the diagnostic tools to pinpoint the cause of syncope, (SIN’ko-pe) or fainting. During this test, the patient lies flat on a table designed tilt. The patient is tilted upright at an angle, with the head always above the feet. Patients are not tilted upside down. As the patient is tilted toward the upright position, an electrocardiogram (ECG) records the heart’s electrical activity. In some patients, this simple maneuver will reveal abnormal cardiovascular reflexes that produce syncope.
