What is Total Joint Replacement?
Our Joint Replacement Center has extensive experience with helping patients return to many daily activities through total joint replacement. Total joint replacement is the surgical removal of worn surfaces of an arthritic or injured joint, such as the hip or knee joint, and replacing it with an artificial joint called a prosthesis. The artificial joint is made of metal and plastic parts which allow the joint to regain its normal function. Joint replacement can reduce pain and stiffness, giving patients greater freedom to move and function.

St. Mary’s Joint Replacement team is made up of specially trained surgeons, physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists who are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to patients receiving total joint replacement.
Our orthopedic nurse navigator coordinates the care of all joint replacement patients during their hospital stay by meeting with physicians and staff to ensure patients are meeting goals and obtaining quality outcomes. The orthopedic nurse navigator also empowers patients and families by providing them with the educational information they need for the quickest recovery possible. For many patients this results in higher satisfaction, decreased length of stay and decreased pain level.
