The Center for Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine

St. Mary’s Center for Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine has been healing patients since 2003. Our specialized team consists of physicians and staff experienced in wound treatment and hyperbaric medicine.

The center is part of an elite group accredited by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). UHMS accredited facilities have met the highest standards of care and patient safety. Presently there are only 6 centers throughout Missouri that hold this accreditation. St. Mary’s Center Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine is the only accredited program in Jackson County.

Our goal is to heal patients and get them back to enjoying their every day lives. It’s also important to not only heal our patient’s wounds, but also give them a positive experience. Our 2021 overall patient satisfaction score was 98%.

At any given time, approximately 6.5 million Americans suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds. There are many different types of wounds. Some are associated with the complications from diabetes and other related vascular disorders. Other types include pressure sores and traumatic wounds. It can be very frustrating and time-consuming to heal these wounds. The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, utilizes the most up-to-date approaches to wound healing and remain current on new scientific advances in wound care.

The Center for Wound Care is designed to complement your physician’s services and is committed to the treatment of difficult, non-healing wounds. The Center is made up of a team of professionals that includes:

  • Nursing staff trained in the care of chronic wounds.
  • Specialized team who perform non-invasive studies and various therapies.
  • Experienced staff to assist with appointments, medical records, and health insurance processing.

Your Wound Treatment Program

Upon referral to the center, you will undergo a thorough diagnostic examination to identify the type of wound you have and the underlying problems causing the wound. After this determination, a program specifically tailored to your needs will be initiated based on the most effective treatment options. A multi-specialty approach will be utilized to provide the maximum benefit to your wound. There are multiple diagnostic and treatment modalities that may be utilized by our professional staff. Some may include:

  • Infectious disease management
  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Laboratory evaluation
  • Nutritional management

Once a treatment plan has been initiated, you will visit the center on a regular basis for wound care. You will be instructed on how to administer your own wound care at home between visits as well as how to protect your wound from further injury.
