Blue Springs, MO—St. Mary’s Medical Center has earned Stroke Center Level II designation from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Bureau of Hospital Standards. The state announced the designation of Stroke Centers across Missouri today.

The Time Critical Diagnosis System was created to improve health outcomes in Missouri and stroke patients will be transported by EMS to the appropriate level stroke center.

“Stroke requires quick assessment and treatment,” explains Kathleen Henderson, Stroke coordinator for St. Mary’s Medical Center. “Getting patients to a designated stroke center saves time and with stroke—time is brain.”

Hospitals earning designation as a Level II Stroke Center have demonstrated it provides definitive care that offers stroke patients the best outcomes for survival and recovery. To earn this designation, St. Mary’s met rigorous criteria in use of the evidence-based guidelines for stroke and rehabilitation and staff education.

St. Mary’s Medical Center has earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval the Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
